Ballers is a sports comedy-drama TV series that ran on HBO from 2015–2019. The show follows former NFL player Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) as he navigates his new career as a financial manager for other NFL players. The series also follows the lives of current and former football players, their families, friends, and handlers.

The show is about how the lives of current and former NFL players aren’t as glamorous as they seem. Spencer uses his charm and imposing frame to guide the careers of young pros, including Ricky Jerret (John David Washington), a competitive yet spiritual player who’s made some mistakes. Ricky’s character draws real-life comparisons to controversial NFL athletes such as Odell Beckham Jr., Terrell Owens, and Johnny Manziel.

The show was created by Stephen Levinson and premiered on June 21, 2015, with a pilot episode written by Levinson and directed by Peter Berg. The fifth and final season premiered on August 25, 2019, and concluded on October 13, 2019.
